The healthcare industry: Germany's industry of the future with global potential   Germany is facing major economic challenges, highlighting the need for a shift in political priorities away from traditional industries toward emerging sectors. The #healthcare industry, in particular, presents a significant opportunity for renewed growth and prosperity in Germany.   What many people do not realize is that the sector is already considered an economic engine, accounting for around 12% of GDP and six million jobs. Due to #demographicchange and the increasing global demand for healthcare solutions (especially in Asia), it promises to become a key industry of the future.   To fully exploit this potential, and here I agree with the FAZ authors Otmar D. Wiestler and Michael Kaschke, the healthcare industry must be given a much higher priority in future planning and future coalition agreements - and this must be achieved through concrete measures that the authors set out in an action plan:    —> Innovation-promoting framework conditions —> Digitization and the use of #AI —> Close cooperation between health research, cutting-edge medical technologies medicine and business for groundbreaking innovations (neoplas med GmbH, can serve as a role model here.) —> Change towards preventive medicine —> Creation of an attractive working environment for young talents   The healthcare industry has the potential to become a central pillar of the German economy – provided we act now and create the necessary conditions. 📰 The complete article is available here:   https://lnkd.in/dPiVFw4X

Sehr lesenswerter Einblick in die strategischen Ziele und Ideen einer der wichtigsten digitalen Plattformen und spannendsten Unternehmen im deutschen Gesundheitswesen. tldr: - 80 Mio Patientenaccounts - die meisten in Frankreich, 19 Mio in Deutschland und die wenigsten in Italien - insgesamt 900.000 Leistungserbringer-Accounts, davon 200.000 in D - angeblich 50-60% jährliches Wachstum der Account-Zahlen in D 😲 - in F bereits profitabel, global kurz davor - derzeit keine Expansionspläne in andere europäische Länder, der Fokus liegt auf Wachstum durch neue Services innerhalb der schon erschlossenen Märkte - eigener Anspruch ist zukünftig eine vollständige Anwendungs-Suite bzw. ein OS für Ärzte zu werden, die alle typischen organisatorischen Praxis-/Klinikabläufe abdeckt und dabei auch KI-Tools integriert - nach jüngster Finanzierungsrunde gut durchfinanziert (€ 500 Mio in 2022, Gesamtbewertung damit bei € 5,8 Mill), IPO ist kein Ziel für 2024 aber wird ebenso wie eine Übernahme durch einen noch größeren Akteur in naher Zukunft nicht ausgeschlossen

In an inspiring step towards personalised healthcare, the autonomous community of La Rioja is joining Spain's largest health study to date, Cohorte IMPaCT. Over the next 20 years, this groundbreaking project will involve 200.000 participants across the country, including 4.000 from La Rioja, to gain insights into the origins, prevention and treatment of common diseases. The aim? To develop more personalised, effective healthcare by analysing health data, genetic markers and lifestyle factors. Each participant, randomly selected to ensure diversity, will undergo regular health checks every five years, including ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurements with 50 units of our MESI mTABLET as part of their physical examination. This will provide invaluable data on vascular health, supporting early detection and intervention. We're excited by initiatives like this that push the boundaries of healthcare research! Projects like this bring us closer to a future where healthcare is personalised, predictive and preventative. This underscores the strategic importance of health in the post-pandemic era, with a strong focus on:   🔹 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Europe must enhance its innovation capacity to maintain technological sovereignty and deliver on its promises to EU citizens. 🔹 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬: The recent pandemic highlighted the urgent need for swift, coordinated, and impact-oriented response to future global health crises. 🔹 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐀𝐈) 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞: AI changes fundamentally the way how research is conducted through, e.g., accelerated hypothesis generation, conducting research, discovery, and characterisation.   These pressures expose gaps in Europe’s healthcare innovation chain, from early R&I to the adoption of breakthrough technologies. To ensure resilience, competitiveness, and the ability to respond to future crises, strategic action is needed.   🚀 The EARTO Working Group on Emerging Technologies for #Healthcare highlights key considerations and recommends 7️⃣ 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: ✅ Adequate funding for future health technologies ✅ Revitalising SME participation in healthcare innovation ✅ Closing gaps in early-stage R&I to strengthen the whole healthcare innovation chain ✅ Promoting cross-cutting health technology development  ✅ Reigniting industry collaboration with RTOs in health-focused partnerships ✅ Achieving a more cohesive digital health ecosystem ✅ Developing sustainable technology infrastructures for health innovation   At EARTO, we are ready to collaborate and share our expertise to address these challenges, ensuring Europe remains at the forefront of health innovation. On September 8, a joint circular from the Ministry of Commerce, China (MOFCOM), National Health Commission and the National Medical Products Administration announced plans to allow foreign investors to run hospitals in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, as well as the whole island of Hainan. The circular, however, stresses that foreign investors will not be allowed to acquire public hospitals or operate businesses associated with traditional Chinese medicine. The decision to allow wholly foreign-owned hospitals in key cities and regions fits well with the goals of Healthy China 2030, a strategic plan aimed at expanding the spectrum of healthcare services, promoting healthier lifestyles, and creating a robust healthcare system by 2030. The move marks a significant shift in the nation's healthcare landscape. As the world's second-largest economy and home to a rapidly aging population, China's healthcare system has faced immense pressure in recent years. By opening the doors to foreign healthcare providers, the government is making a bold and strategic move that could potentially reshape not just the healthcare sector but the entire investment climate. For years, Chinese citizens with the means to do so have been traveling abroad in search of medical treatment. Countries such as the U.S., Japan, and Germany have been prime destinations for those seeking specialized care, state-of-the-art medical technologies, or services that may not yet be widely available at home. Allowing foreign hospitals to set up wholly-owned facilities locally addresses this issue head-on by offering access to world-class healthcare without the need for costly international travel. There is also the question of affordability. Will these foreign hospitals cater primarily to wealthy Chinese or expatriates, leaving the average citizen with limited access to high-end healthcare? If foreign hospitals are positioned as luxury providers, they could deepen the existing inequality in healthcare access, leaving public hospitals even more strained as they continue to serve the majority of the population. Gesundheitsdaten spielen dabei eine besondere Rolle. Doch welchen Nutzen hat das Teilen von Gesundheitsdaten für jeden Einzelnen und für die Gemeinschaft? Roche ist zum vierten Mal Teil des bundesweiten Digitaltags. Geplant ist eine virtuelle Veranstaltung zum Thema "Gesundheitsdaten verstehen”. Wir werden aus verschiedenen Perspektiven diskutieren, wie Daten für eine bessere Gesundheitsversorgung genutzt werden sollten: aus Sicht von Ärzt:innen, Patient:innen, der Pharmaindustrie und natürlich der Teilnehmer:innen. Ich freue mich sehr, als Referentin seitens Pharma an diesem wichtigen Ereignis teilzunehmen. Warum bin ich dabei und was möchte ich beitragen? Ich leite die AG Gesundheitsdaten des Roche Patient Council, einer Gruppe, in der sich Roche von Patientenvertreter:innen zu strategisch wichtigen Themen beraten lässt.
