Dear Sir or Madam,

Great things happen when ideas, capital, and innovation come together – and Berlin is the place to make it happen.

Right now, something big is taking shape in the German capital: with bio:cap, the region is launching a new international event format that will help shape the future of life sciences. As the Health Industry Cluster, we’re proud to be part of this initiative and have signed a cooperation agreement with Messe Berlin – a strong signal for the location and the innovative strength of our networks.

Taking place for the first time from June 9 to 11, 2026, bio:cap is more than another trade fair: it’s an Investival – a platform that connects disruptive ideas from life sciences and artificial intelligence with capital and policy. Under the patronage of Charité and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), and supported by the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), this new format breaks down traditional industry boundaries and builds new alliances – between research, industry, investors, and policymakers.

Berlin is the ideal place for this. Our cluster brings together excellent science, dynamic start-ups, a growing AI scene, and international visibility. bio:cap connects life sciences, AI, and capital – right at the intersection where Berlin is particularly strong. As Host City Partner, we’re actively contributing our network and experience from the capital region’s health industry cluster.

To fully focus our efforts on bio:cap, we’ve decided to pause our popular premium format, the BIONNALE, in 2026. This was not an easy decision – we know how much many of you value the BIONNALE. But we’re convinced: bio:cap offers the opportunity to take our content, networks, and vision to a new international level. And we look forward to seeing many familiar faces there – in a new and inspiring setting.

Now it’s up to all of us to bring this new format to life. Let’s work together to make bio:cap a beacon of innovation and investment – for Berlin, for Europe, and for the health economy of tomorrow.

Warm regards,
Dr. Kai Bindseil

Green Chemistry: the sustainable path to enhanced efficiency

Fewer by-products, lower energy consumption, more sustainable materials, greater environmental protection, increased recyclability – these are just some of the goals of green chemistry. Making the chemical production of consumer goods and raw materials more environmentally friendly has been an important part of research for some time now. In the capital region, numerous players are dedicated to green chemistry and are researching, developing and producing in this field.

Print rather than build – AMBER helps Berlin to become 3D printing capital

Owing to the many advantages it offers, Additive Manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, currently is one of the most promising technologies. Therefore, promoting research and development in this area is an integral part of Berlin's industrial policy. Berlin wants to become Europe’s 3D printing capital by 2030. To realize this goal, Berlin Partner and associates such as TU Berlin, BAM, MGA and WVsC, founded AMBER, the 3D printing initiative of the capital region, in 2022. AMBER is financed by the Berliner Innovationsförderfonds (Berlin Innovation Fund) and supported by the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises.

“Prevention and Patient Empowerment – Your Ideas for a Healthier Future” – The Barcamp Health Innovation for the Healthcare of Tomorrow

In order to tackle the immense challenges posed by demographic change, we urgently need more prevention, both in society and in the healthcare system. But how can we achieve better prevention and patient empowerment? This question was addressed at the Barcamp Health Innovation 2025 in Berlin. Numerous stakeholders from the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region presented their ideas and solutions and discussed possibilities for their further development and implementation.

The tip from our relocation experts:

Berlin offers a broad and diverse talent pool in the health and life sciences sector, supported by a strong academic landscape and a vibrant innovation culture. Each year, thousands of graduates from universities and applied science institutions enter the workforce, bringing expertise in biotechnology, medical technology, digital health, and related fields.

The city’s international appeal also attracts professionals from across Europe and beyond, contributing to a multilingual and multidisciplinary environment that is particularly valuable for globally active companies.

One example of how Berlin is strengthening its innovation pipeline is the newly launched startup factory UNITE – Berlin-Brandenburg. This federally funded initiative brings together academic institutions, industry partners, and investors to support science-based startups in areas such as HealthTech, AI, and GreenTech. Networks like UNITE help ensure that research talent is not only retained in the region but also actively supported in transitioning into entrepreneurial roles.

Interested in building your team or connecting with local innovation networks? We’re happy to assist.

Charité study in Nature uncovers fundamental processes in the fly brain

Flies too need their sleep. In order to be able to react to dangers, however, they must not completely phase out the environment. Researchers at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin have now deciphered how the animal's brain produces this state. As they describe in the journal Nature*, the fly brain filters out visual information rhythmically during sleep – so that strong visual stimuli could still wake the animal up.
